Overview

One of five Voyager-class ships in the fleet, this is a big ship, carrying over 3,000 passengers, with a huge shopping mall and adventure activities such as ice-skating and rock climbing. There are even party parades throughout the main street. Some cabins have a bird’s-eye view of the festivities, overlooking the main promenade.

Service is friendly.

Suitability

A good-value choice for everyone, including couples, first-timers and experienced cruisers, as there is so much to do on board. All Royal Caribbean ships are suitable for families, but Explorer’s sheer size means there is even more on offer for kids, and it even has teenage-only areas.

This is a huge ship. There’s lots going on and plenty of tannoy announcements, and for that reason, will not suit some people who prefer to travel on smaller vessels.

Most passengers on Royal Caribbean ships are from the US. Passengers who want a more British experience may prefer to travel on P&O.

Hints & Tips

Suite passengers have their own club for breakfast and evening drinks.

Text-mad cruisers will be pleased to know that mobile phones can be used at sea.

Although there is a wedding chapel, it is only possible to get married while the ship is in port. However, vow renewals can be made while the ship is at sea.

On-line check in has just been introduced, meaning you can fill in your details on the Internet before you board, saving time at embarkation, which can be a laborious process.
