It is an elegant and spacious ship, offering gourmet cuisine, and with no annoying on-board announcements and no hard-sell that often occurs on some of the more mass-market ships.
The on-board experience is upmarket yet informal and flexible, rather than stuffy. Ultra-all inclusive, there is no charge for drinks, or excursions. You can sit where you like for dinner, at what time you like. It’s also possible to have a course-by-course dinner served in your suite.
All accommodation is in suites, 80% of which have verandahs. Even though all drinks are included in the price, these passengers are refined, so you never see anyone drunk. Service is top-notch, with a high staff-to-passenger ratio.SuitabilityMost of Silversea’s passengers are couples, most of whom are over 50, well-travelled and who appreciate the finer things in life. There is a mixture of nationalities, most notably American, British and European.
Not suitable for families.Hints & TipsAlthough the brochure price is more than other cruiselines, do remember that on board there is almost nothing to pay for.
Look out for early booking offers and special discounts. A few years ago, this was unheard of, but Silversea does now allow its product to be discounted.
Tips are included in the price, but if you feel you want to reward extra-special service, tipping individual members of staff is allowed.
Each cruise has a surprise on-shore event, such as a private beach barbecue or party, called the Silversea Experience.
It is possible to add land packages on to the cruise.
