We had the worse Drake crossing ever for this ship. Steady 50+ knot winds with gusts to 75 knots. Seas 30-40 feet. Tough on ship and passengers. Once we reached Antarctica, it was wonderful. Captain Garcia and the expedition crew are second to none. The entire ships crew was outstanding. Food and drink was excellent.
Return crossing was like a lake. We did 11 landings in 4 days. Each landing was better than the last. Millions of penguins, lots of seals and several whales breaching. LITERALLY A TRIP OF A LIFETIME. If you have the opportunity, go. You won't be disappointed.
Cruising the Classic Mediterranean, May 2006 Reviewer: Joann Dale from Rochester, N.Y.,USA This is a small ship with just over 100 cabins and our 10 day cruise was just over half full. Despite the small size, the ship had a full complement of amenities. There was an extensive library, DVD player and television with two ship movie stations in addition to the usual news and local stations, a lounge with tea time and nightly entertainment usually in the form of piano or combo music...suitable for dancing. There was also a cabaret which offered revues with costumed girls and one man, an opera tenor, and a concert pianist. There was a small pool, deck areas for sunbathing and an elegant observation lounge.
Breakfast and lunch were buffet and offered an asssortment of hot and cold selections. Breakfast never changed, but special orders were invited. Lunch was an adventure with delectable seafood salads, fresh grilled fish, and carved meats. Dinner was served and consisted of three courses with two appetizer and dessert choices and three entree selections. The service was as attentive as in any fine restaurant. There was complimentary wine (South American)with meals and a small wine list.
The crew was polite, friendly and attentive. The cabins were relatively large (the smallest was 183 square feet), well-maintained, made-up twice daily and all contained fresh flowers.
I would not hesitate to sail on Le Diamant again.
