Overview

The ship offers a lot of space for its passengers in public areas and offers a very comfortable cruise at good-value-for-money. Cabins include 43 with balcony.

The food is better than many ships of this standard and is tailed to the British clientele. Destinations include South America and the Mediterranean from ports including Southampton and Dover.

The Filipino crew are attentive and helpful, but waiters are not overbearing or pushy. Staff will help out with excursions readily and point you towards the free shuttle buses. There is a self-serve launderette, with ironing space.

Suitability

Fred Olsen is best-suited for those wanting a British-style experience, with Black Watch offering more formality than sister vessel Black Prince.

Most of the passengers are older and want a familiar, unchallenging, cruise. The ship is the biggest in the fleet and offers the most facilities, including a good range of cabins and restaurants.

Hints & Tips

Entertainment in the Neptune Lounge is disappointing on this vessel with the standard cabaret show on offer, so seek out the bars, casino or cinema for after dinner relaxation.

Go up to The Observatory for the best views when leaving or coming into port.

The spa is good, but be aware of staff trying to sell you products.
