Dining

There are 10 restaurants on Norwegian Gem where passengers can dine as they wish. There are no set dining times. Most restaurants can be pre-booked.

Electronic reservation systems around the ship show how busy each is at that moment, which saves trailing around, only to find your favourite is full.

The Grand Pacific and Magenta main restaurants, both serving the same menu, are free, as are the Italian restaurant, the Blue Lagoon, which serves bowls of chilli and fish and chips around the clock, and the Tex-Mex Tequila.

There is also a French Bistro, an Asian Restaurant divided into three eateries - the Orchid Garden itself, a Teppanyaki Grill and Sushi Bar, and Cagney’s Steakhouse. All charge a moderate supplement.

The Grand Pacific is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Sushi Bar and Teppanyaki Grill are open for lunch on sea days. Suite passengers can have breakfast and lunch in Cagney’s Steakhouse.

There are also three self-service eateries – the outside grill is open for breakfast and lunch, the Garden Café is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (food is cooked to order but there are no trays, which is awkward).

The Great Outdoors, at the back of the Garden Café, has a cut-down self-service menu and Austrian/Bavarian brunches on sea days.

Entertainment

There is entertainment every evening in the theatre, where there is a mix of glitzy music and dance shows and comedians.

Second City, a very American comedy improvisation act, performs in the Spinnaker Lounge, where there are regular late-night adult shows, which veer towards comedy and female interest. At other times, the Spinnaker has a resident show band.

Ultra Bliss Lounge is a popular nightclub venue, for its music as well as the 10-pin bowling, which is available for a small additional charge.

In the day, there is bingo, pool games, lectures, fitness classes, rock-climbing and more.
