Holland America Line is an upmarket cruise line, with many traditional touches, and catering mainly for the US market. Its children’s facilities are an improvement on other ships in the fleet, in a bid to attract the family market. Club HAL is its a dedicated kids’ club for ages three to 12, while The Loft is for teenagers. Several new enhancements, under the line’s Signature of Excellence programme, are due to be completed in autumn 2006.SuitabilityDespite its good kids’ facilities, Oosterdam’s passengers are still mainly over 55s. However, it is a good option for different generations of families who want to holiday together.Hints & Tips15% gratuity is automatically charged to drinks bills. Tips are at the discretion of passengers. Reservations are necessary for the alternative dining option, and there is a cover charge. Free popcorn in the cinema.
