Hi, everybody:
In my last vacation, I was on the ship Perla, this ship is beautiful, comfortable, and very nice and the food tasted good. I liked to start in the Perla. Thanks.

Having just returned from a 7 day cruise on the Perla I must say our experience was totally different to the two I have just read. Sure the cabins are small but then again the ship isn't one of the floating tower blocks which are all too available around the Greek islands and probably more suited to a lot of people who's idea of a cruise is to be waited on hand and foot. Larger cabins are available if you want to pay the extra.

The food and the service was first class and the biggest problem was trying not to keep going back for more. As for the crew you couldn't have asked for better, always relaxed friendly and there with a smile.

If you are looking for a slave and somewhere you can show off try a floating impersonal tower block not the Perla, leave that to people who enjoy cruising.

The thing we enjoyed most was the fact the Perla was not the most modern up to date ship available but was very clean and maintained well and had the feeling of a traditional cruise.

One word of warning is the 8 euro per person per day service charge which we were not aware of until a couple of days before the end, no doubt it is in the fine print somewere but overall we had a great time and will definately go again.

We just returned from our honeymoon - we did an 11 day Agean Classic with 7 day Greek Island/Turkey cruise on Louis Hellenic Cruise - Perla. It was absolutely the worst experience of our lives.

First, we were originally booked on a different ship - no one informed us of a change until we received our paperwork, at which time we found out we were on the Perla In speaking with the staff aboard the ship, the Perla is used only for the 3 and 4 day cruises, not the 7 day. The crew also told us that the company is going through bankruptcy and their larger ships are stuck at port until they can pay the back taxes that are due.

Secondly, the ship was extremely overcrowded. We paid for an upgraded oceanview cabin - we got a room the size of a closet on the very bottom deck that seemed like it was for the crew. The deck that we were on smelled on urine and other foul odors. The carpets were very dirty and the overall atmosphere was awful.

Third, the food was so very awful - we would go without eating rather than eat the food on the ship - my husband got food poisoning from eating on the ship. Everyone was complaining. The same food - I mean the same food - was seen on the buffet and in the dining hall day after day - they just slapped some sauce on it and called it by a new name.

Fourth, the sewage system backed up on the dining deck and the smell was just awful - people were getting sick and causing more stench - it was truly the worst experience. Fifth, the itinerary had such exciting things as Scrabble, Napkin Folding, Bead Making, etc. There were no TVs on the ship except in one of the lounges, the casino consisted on 7 slot machines and 3 tables, the shows were done by crew (and were very bad - people were falling asleep through them or getting up and leaving).

Fifth, the rooms were awful - the air conditioning never worked so the entire boat was always very very warm - people were getting sick from the heat, the rooms had leaks (for example, our room leaked from the vent above the closet area, so the carpet was always soaked and we had to keep our bags off of the floor - the rooms were so small though that there was no place to put them where they wouldn't get wet), there were leaks in the bathroom, holes in the walls, and the list goes on. They advertised that room service was included - but room service never answers the phone and if you call the Purser's Desk - they will take your order but you get charged for everything. My husband was sick with food poisoning and I didn't want to leave him to go find some hot tea, I tried to get some delivered to the room - it took over an hour and they were extremely rude on top of that.

Sixth, we paid a large amount of money for the package - it was advertised as a 'First Class" package - it is not even a 5th class. We will be filing formal complaints against the cruise line and the travel agency

It was not terrible - just not very good.

The boat left on time and got us to the ports as promised. The food in the dining room was adequate - again not bad but not good- food on deck was limited to specific hours - not all the time as is usual on most cruises. The entertainment was more like a folk show than the traditional cruise shows. The casino consisted of 12 slot machines and 2 table games.

The size of the room was comparable to other cruises but it was very old and not that clean. We had stains all over our carpet. The cruise was part of a package so I don't know the cost of the cruise, but I suspect that it was very cheap. You get what you pay for.
