Overview

The first ship to be built by Cunard since QE2 in 1969, QM2 caused lots of excitement when it joined the fleet in 2004. This is the largest ship in terms of length and tonnage in the world, and mainly carries out transatlantic cruises from Southampton – New York.

The on-board ambiance and experience is very similar to QE2, British in style, with lots of memorabilia that harps back to the grand old days of ocean travel. While QE2 has three different classes of accommodation, QM2 has two, Grill Class and Britannia Class. Again, where you stay depends on which restaurant you eat in.

Suitability

The passenger mix is similar to QE2, made up mostly of Americans and Brits, who appreciate a British-style cruise experience.

Unlike QE2, there are no single cabins, although there are 30 cabins that are wheelchair-friendly. Service is good – particularly in the top restaurant.

Hints & Tips

From 2007, QM2 will operate round-the-world cruises.

Tips are automatically added to your on board account.

Male hosts are on board to assist solo female passengers.

There is an alternative restaurant. Bookings are necessary and a cover price is charged.
If travelling Southampton – New York, bring plenty of books to wile away the hours.

For an extra special experience, take the Orient Express from Waterloo down to Southampton to join the cruise.
