This is the MSC Cruises’ second Musica-class ship and while the décor is chic, the designs are definitely more daring – even a little tacky in places – as MSC follows the trend towards a brasher look so beloved of some rival lines.
MSC Cruises is Italian-owned and as a result the on-board service and cruising style is very European, with a strong hint of Italy in the type of food served.
Passengers booking this can expect to share the ship with a majority of Italians but also a large percentage of German, Spanish and French cruisers. With so many languages and cultures jostling to get heard, it can get very noisy. Announcements are made in five languages.
Suitability
This is an ideal ship for Europhiles who are fond of all things Italian and happy to put up with different cultures and a more laid-back style of service.
As long as that condition is met, this will suit couples and families of all ages as there is a kids’ club for youngsters aged three to 13 - split into the Mini Club for the three to nines and Junior Club for the nine to 13s, plus a separate area for teenagers - and shows, lounges and bars to keep adults entertained.
Hints & Tips
There are usually two formal nights on a seven-night cruise when DJs and evening dresses are recommended.
A moderate per passenger gratuity is added to cruise accounts each day. It is not mandatory and can be removed or reduced on request.
The Italians don’t do queues. When in Rome, forget any British reserve.
Children aged 18 and under cruise for free when sharing a cabin with two adults.
