Overview

Ocean Village Two was passed down two sister companies before becoming Ocean Village’s second ship in 2007, after a major refurbishment to change the dining areas and bring the look and feel of the vessel into line with the line’s casual concept.

There are no dress codes, no gala evenings or set meal times as food in the main restaurants on board is served buffet style. If anyone wants to be served, they must book a table and pay extra to dine in one of the two speciality restaurants.

Special features of the ship include the thermal suite in the Karma Spa and the Club Lounge for suite passengers on deck 11.

Suitability

Ocean Village bills itself as the cruise line for people who don’t do cruises. It gets a lot of first-timers who want a cruise without all the traditional trimmings, but increasingly a lot of repeat business from people who like its casual style. Passengers are almost exclusively British.

The ship is popular with couples of all ages, and gets a huge number of families during school holidays.

Base Camp, the kids’ club, is for children aged two to 12, split into three age groups – two to fours, five to eights and nine to 12s. Teens have their own hideaway, The Attic.

Hints & Tips

The speciality restaurants fill up fast so book as soon as you board.

Gratuities are included in the cruise price.

The supplement for the Club Lounge, exclusively for suite passengers, buys a quiet place to have a snack breakfast and lunch, free use of the internet and non-stop soft drinks. Alcohol is served from 5pm to 8pm.

There are no seats for the deck show so grab your standing room early for a grandstand view and rail to lean on.

Escape the crowds on the sun decks in the thermal suite. You won’t get a tan, but it’s blissfully peaceful. Daily or weekly passes are available for a moderate charge.
