Empress of the Seas

Write a Review on this Ship

Overview

One of the line’s older ships, Empress of the Seas has recently been refitted to include a bigger fitness centre and rock-climbing wall. It is impressive and still stylish. It has smaller cabins than the newer ships in the fleet, but there is still plenty to do. This is of the line’s Sovereign-class ships.

In the summer, the ship sails to Bermuda, and out of San Juan, Puerto Rico in the winter, offering South Caribbean cruises.

Service is friendly, although there is a lot of up-selling.

Suitability

An excellent choice for couples, first-timers and experienced cruisers, as there is so much to do on board. Good value for money and excellent food for the price.

While all Royal Caribbean ships are family-orientated, passengers with younger children may prefer to book with one of the line’s newer, larger ships. There are lots of Americans on board and passengers who want a more British experience may prefer to travel on P&O.

The constant up-selling and daily announcements may annoy some Brits.

Hints & Tips

Text-mad cruisers will be pleased to know that mobile phones can be used at sea.

Pre-paid drinks packages for adults and soda packages for kids are available.

Recently, the cruise line introduced online check in, allowing passengers to fill in their details prior to boarding, making the embarkation process much quicker.

Pre-paid drinks packages are available for kids and adults, which may work out cheaper than buying by the glass.
