Overview

Island Cruises’ second ship, this is a good-value, mass-market cruise, tailored to British tastes. Island Cruises was originally launched to cater for a younger (35-45 years) age group. However, it attracts customers of all ages who want an informal cruise experience with few frills.

Another big attraction is that it is possible to fly out of regional airports with tour operator First Choice, which part-owns the cruise line. If you want a cheap and cheerful cruise, you can’t really go wrong, but bear in mind that although the holiday price is low, money is clawed back on-board, and almost everything, from bridge visits to safety deposit keys, costs extra.
The food is surprisingly good for the price.

The ship is based out of Majorca.

Service is acceptable, although you don’t get any of the special touches you would expect from a more upmarket cruise ship.

Suitability

Suitable for passengers of all ages who want a low-cost cruise with few frills and for people who don’t want to get dressed up every night for dinner – the dress code is smart casual. Popular with families too, with a good kids’ club, called Palmy’s.

In the summer, the ship is based in the Mediterranean and is completely full of UK passengers. However, bear in mind that, in the winter, the ship moves to Brazil where most passengers are local, creating a very different on-board atmosphere.

Hints & Tips

Bridge visits can be booked coming in and leaving port, for a fee.

Bear in mind when booking that cabins 9003-9004 and 9016-9091 on Deck 9 have restricted views.

All twin-bedded rooms can be converted into doubles, but not all doubles can be made into twins.

Guided bike tour excursions have been introduced for this summer.

For something really special, passengers can renew their wedding vows, with the Captain as Master of Ceremonies.

Babysitting service is available.
