Public Areas

There are 12 public decks, numbered four to 15, although the top two are sections of deck rather than extending the full-length of the ship.

Deck 15 has a private sunbathing area for passengers in its villas, and a separate, smaller sun area for all guests. Deck 14 houses the villas, a rock-climbing wall and another public sun-bathing area.

The aft end of deck 13 houses sports courts, Cagney’s Steakhouse and the Star Bar, a convenient pre- and post-dinner drinks venue for passengers dining in Cagney’s. Further forward are a chapel and Spinnaker Lounge.

The spa and fitness centre is at the front of the ship on deck 12, near the library and card room. This is the lido deck, with three pools mid-ships, one with a big slide and one for kids, just outside the children’s club. The Garden Café self-service and Italian Restaurants are at the aft end of the deck.

Decks 11, 10 and nine are cabins, and there are more cabins on deck five, four and eight. Deck eight also houses the 24-hour Blue Lagoon fast-food diner and Tequila restaurant.

The upper level of the two-deck theatre is on deck seven, which also houses the shops, the Lotus Garden Restaurant, the reception, shore excursion desk, internet café and art gallery.

There is a two-deck-high screen in the lobby showing films and on which Nintendo Wii tournaments are held, and four 10-pin-bowling lanes in the Bliss Ultra Lounge, at the aft end of the ship.

Deck six is for dining, housing the French Bistro and two main restaurants. The casino is also on this deck, as is so-called Bar Central, with a Champagne Bar, Martini Bar and Beer and Whiskey Bar.

Cabins

Norwegian Gem has 1,197 cabins, ranging from insides to penthouse suites, of which 783 are outside and 540 have balconies. There are also 27 wheel-chair accessible cabins, two garden villas, eight courtyard villas and two deluxe owners’ suites and four owners’ suites.

Inside and outside cabins measure 143 and 161 square feet respectively, balcony staterooms are 205 square feet. Mini-suites are 284 square feet, suites range from 460 square feet to 823 square feet.

Courtyard villas measure 572 square feet, deluxe owners’ suites are 1,195 square feet and the two garden villas are a giant 4,390 square feet.

All cabins offer wi-fi internet access and come with TVs, fridges, coffee-makers and safes. Most have three-section bathrooms with separate showers and toilets.

Staterooms from balcony grade upwards have a music console, mini-suites have access to a concierge, suites have butler and concierge service, as well as a CD/DVD library.

Passengers in Owners’ Suite staterooms or higher are allowed to use a concierge lounge and the private sunbathing area on deck 15 which has a pool and whirlpool.

All cabins have 24-hour room service.
