Lots of interesting places to see and well organised trips.
However, our second week was very noisy as there were lots of teenagers on the ship. Most were well behaved but the odd few spoilt it around the pool area for everybody. The Thomson’s reps seemed powerless or unwilling to do anything to stop them. Also be careful what cabin you choose as the ones near the lifts are noisy and the youngsters tend to hang around in the stairways near the lounges.
Emerald Cruise ship refurbishment, 7th May 2005 Reviewer: Angela Chester from Spain We cruised on the Emerald May 2005, previously cruising on the (Thomson’s Sunbird EXCELLENT 2 Weeks). We were so disappointed with this cruise ship the Emerald, we found they were re-carpeting & painting the ship whilst we were on board, so some bars & areas were closed ( we hadn’t been informed of a refurbishment & also closed amenities). I did complain on board saying these jobs should be done before passengers come for their holiday ( I was seen as a moaner, I felt strongly passengers shouldn’t be experiencing this) health & safety were being compromised, carpets taken up not cordoned off, passengers having to step over old carpets, I saw one passenger go out of a bar door & fall over a new reel of carpet, I then went to complain again as nothing had been done !
We paid for full amenities, not carpet laying & painting ,so areas were not available because of this, I took photos of all these things, wrote to Thomson’s on my return got fobbed off for about 4 months, but persevered they offered me travel vouchers, but kindly declined, asking for cash which they refunded £400.
The staffs were great hard working people who went out of their way to make you feel welcome, food good too. Shame the owners of the ship get greedy, & don’t do refurbishments when in dry dock, they want it all ways. Can’t say I would return.
Review of ship, July 2005 Reviewer: JACKIE from MUSSELBURGH EAST LOTHIAN SCOTLAND This was our first cruise which was on the Emerald in July 2005. The itinerary we were on was the Adriatic Explorer. The ship itself was excellent with the service first class. All the staff were friendly especially Robin.
Food was brilliant, cabin was excellent and very spacious. So much to do and good entertainment. As regards to the cruise itself disappointed in Ravenna, Brindisi and Trieste interesting but Venice, Split and Dubrovnik were superb. Now going on another cruise in July 2006 for 14 days on the Destiny.
Ship was excellent, July 2005 Reviewer: Alan Slight (13 years old) from Musselburgh, Edinburgh This was the first time I had been on a cruise and it was excellent. Also there was alot for children and teens to do, there was an entertainer called Robin and he was very good with teens. Also there are lots of things for the family to do like there were shows performed at night and there is always something to at night if it is a 1979 new years party or having a gamble at the casino there is plenty to do also there is plenty food aswell.
Finally we loved it so much so when we can home from the brilliant holiday we booked another cruise for 2006 on the Thomson Destiny so i hope it is good as the Emerald because we are going on the cruise for 2 weeks and not just 1.
EMERALD, July 2004 Reviewer: Sandra Although a small ship the service and entertainement is 1st class. The crew met all your need with attention to detail and the cuisine catered for all tastes and was well presented.
The itinerary for the Adriatic Explorer was stunning. Dubrovnik being outstanding. This cruise comes highly recommended.
