Overview

Undoubtedly the most famous ship currently sailing the seas, QE2 evokes strong emotions wherever she ports in the world. One of the few remaining ocean-going liners, QE2 is best known for her six-day Southampton – New York transatlantic journeys, although she also cruises round the world, where it’s possible to do the whole journey, or book individual sectors.

One of the few ships where the grade of accommodation determines which restaurant you eat in, although unlike the film Titanic, different classes of passengers can still mix on deck and in the public rooms. Service is very good, particularly if you are eating in the top restaurant.

Suitability

Very popular among singles, couples and cruise-ship fans who want to experience travelling on one of the last great ocean-going liners. Ship enthusiasts will love whiling away the hours studying the on-board memorabilia of old-time ocean sailing.

There are 150 cabins for single people, making it a good option for solo travellers. There are some facilities for kids, but those looking for a family holiday may prefer to book with a newer, mass-market cruiseline. Most passengers are American or British.

Hints & Tips

Tips are automatically added to your on board account. There is also a 15% service charge on all drinks.

There is a self-service launderette, which is free to use.

Grill Class passengers (the ones who pay most), have their own private lounge, the Queens Grill.

Male hosts are on board to assist solo female passengers.

If travelling Southampton – New York, bring plenty of books to wile away the hours.
